The Rev. Peter Coutts

General Presbyter

Since May 2013 Peter has been the General Presbyter of the Presbytery of Calgary-Macleod—a first for The Presbyterian Church in Canada. In this half-time role he supports and coaches clergy, helps Sessions grow in their leadership and future-focus, assesses the vitality of our congregations and resources them for greater health. Before becoming “GP”, Peter served 13 years as Lead Minister at St. Andrew’s Church in Calgary, at Oakridge in London ON (as Associate Minister, 9 years) and Saanich Peninsula outside of Victoria BC (in new church development, 4 years). Peter graduated with a D.Min. in congregational revitalization from McCormick Presbyterian Seminary in Chicago, and later went on to teach core courses in that program as an adjunct professor. In 2013 the Alban Institute in Washington DC published his book Choosing Change: How to Motivate Churches to Face the Future.

Given the potential sensitivity of the General Presbyter’s work, the Presbytery has adopted “Confidentiality and Disclosure Guidelines for the General Presbyter.”
